In this episode we brew a juicy India Pale Ale, or IPA. This recipe calls for a lot of Nugget, Citra, and Mosaic hops, but just the right amount at the right time so our finished beer is juicy, not bitter. We add hops during the boil, as we’re chilling (hopstand), and then after fermentation (dry hopping). We recommend you brew this up and pair it with something just as juicy, like a steak or hamburger. We based this recipe off of the well known “Fresh Squeezed IPA” by Deschutes Brewery. If you like their IPA, you should definitely try brewing ours. This recipe is great and easy for brewers of any skill level. In the middle of our video, we taste a beer that’s a complete opposite from what we’re brewing, a Blueberry Coffee Porter from Boojum Brewing. At the end, we pitch a yeast starter made from California Ale Yeast. It’s always a good idea to use a yeast starter for big IPA’s like this. Watch our video on how to make a yeast starter if you haven’t. Watch the next two videos in this series to see us keg, dry hop, and then taste the beer.
